14 days before your cruise, you will get a notification that it’s time to Check-in. Good news, you can do that using the Carnival Cruise Hub App. This is where you can start planning your activities for your various ports of call. The main reason is that once on board if you haven’t purchased a Carnival Cruise WiFi package, you would need to use your Cellular data to download the App. If you have already left the port by this time, this could be very expensive if data roaming charges apply.

Open your countdown in the app and you'll have the ability to add custom text. Here you can get all the information on the Carnival Internet Packages available on the ship and sign up for any specific plan. Now your experience may be different, but this wasn’t working on our last cruise. So, I’m not sure if this is limited to certain ships. Once logged into the Cruise App you will see a menu icon in the top right. Tap this and a menu will appear with a few options. These options will change depending on whether you already have an upcoming cruise booked on not.
The app worked great as long as the wifi worked on the ship. We went with our family and my youngest spent some time in the daycare. I really liked that the app showed if she was checked in or out of daycare and by whom. If my sister, wife or someone else on the list checked her out it showed the name of who checked her in or out and at what time. Another cool part of the app was the scheduling and reserving events. The app will remind you 15 minutes before the event to give you enough time to make it on time.
If you haven’t booked directly with Carnival, you can use the “Enter with Booking #” login option and then follow the prompts. You do not need to pay for any of the cruise Wifi packages to access the app. The application is optimized to run on smartphones. But it will also run on your Apple iPad or Google Chromebook or Tablet. You should download the CarnivalHub App before your cruise. If I lost my way on board, I would need to find an elevator area to see the Ship’s layout to figure out what deck I needed to be on next.

Here’s a quick list of all the opening and closing times of the key locations on the ship. I constantly forget what deck my favorite bars are on. So this is my favorite feature of the Carnival Hub App. You can even just type part of the name of the venue and it will jump directly to that deck. I get into the habit of checking my phone regularly if we were cruising with friends and we were all using the chat facility. I scheduled a dinner at the steakhouse (which I highly recommend) for a party of 12. A lot of the things I would need to queue for, I can now do using the app. Funtimes is a great resource, but you need to carry it around with you, and sometimes finding specific information isn’t that easy. When Carnival Cruise Line started the design process for Mardi Gras, they got one thing right straight from the start; dividing the vessel up into different zones. One of these is the Grand Central zone, with the colossal Atrium lobby as the main focal point, not just for Grand Central but also for the entire ship. I can even set reminders for events and my phone will let me know, so I don’t miss the start of that headliner show.
While Grand Central and the French Quarter will be highlights for many that enjoy a night out, it doesn’t mean that Carnival has forgotten about the rest of Mardi Gras. The cruise line has managed to cram fun into every corner of the vessel. While not as big as Grand Central, the French Quarter is undoubtedly something worth checking out. Deck 7 of Grand Central is the place to be for those that like to place a bet as stretched out from the Atrium to the Mardi Gras theatre is the casino.
