So I’ll try to address all the questions I am asked about it. Surprise, surprise, it suddenly looks very different as all the onboard features are unlocked. Before your cruise, the App is very limited and is essentially just a portal for their main website. However, it still helps you plan and prepare for your cruise. Just expect to end up back on Carnival’s website and NOT on the App. Once you have successfully downloaded the app to your smartphone, you should see a new App Icon that looks like this.
Will I have to pay for Carnival Cruise WiFi to use the Carnival Hub App?
14 days before your cruise, you will get a notification that it’s time to Check-in. Good news, you can do that using the Carnival Cruise Hub App. This is where you can start planning your activities for your various ports of call. The main reason is that once on board if you haven’t purchased a Carnival Cruise WiFi package, you would need to use your Cellular data to download the App. If you have already left the port by this time, this could be very expensive if data roaming charges apply.
Data Not Linked to You
Open your countdown in the app and you'll have the ability to add custom text. Here you can get all the information on the Carnival Internet Packages available on the ship and sign up for any specific plan. Now your experience may be different, but this wasn’t working on our last cruise. So, I’m not sure if this is limited to certain ships. As you scroll through the list of events, you will be able to tap on each one and get more info.
CruisePicker is my Pick!
You can get the forecast for every day of your cruise. When you receive a message, your smartphone should give you a pop-up notification. If you want to do that, you will need at least the Social Plan Internet package – but check out this amazing little free iMessage hack we discovered.
Using the Carnival Hub App Pre Cruise
To help avoid queues are the ship, there is a “virtual queue” function within the app. No longer do you need to stand in a long line at Guest Services. Just reserve a place in the queue and you’ll get an alert when your spot is ready. Never get locked out of your favorite coffee spot or dining area.

Once logged into the Cruise App you will see a menu icon in the top right. Tap this and a menu will appear with a few options. These options will change depending on whether you already have an upcoming cruise booked on not.
The app worked great as long as the wifi worked on the ship. We went with our family and my youngest spent some time in the daycare. I really liked that the app showed if she was checked in or out of daycare and by whom. If my sister, wife or someone else on the list checked her out it showed the name of who checked her in or out and at what time. Another cool part of the app was the scheduling and reserving events. The app will remind you 15 minutes before the event to give you enough time to make it on time.

If you haven’t booked directly with Carnival, you can use the “Enter with Booking #” login option and then follow the prompts. You do not need to pay for any of the cruise Wifi packages to access the app. The application is optimized to run on smartphones. But it will also run on your Apple iPad or Google Chromebook or Tablet. You should download the CarnivalHub App before your cruise. If I lost my way on board, I would need to find an elevator area to see the Ship’s layout to figure out what deck I needed to be on next.

Here’s a quick list of all the opening and closing times of the key locations on the ship. I constantly forget what deck my favorite bars are on. So this is my favorite feature of the Carnival Hub App. You can even just type part of the name of the venue and it will jump directly to that deck. I get into the habit of checking my phone regularly if we were cruising with friends and we were all using the chat facility. If you have already got a cruise booked, you should see “Countdown to…” followed by the name of your ship and the number of days, hours, and minutes until boarding time.
I scheduled a dinner at the steakhouse (which I highly recommend) for a party of 12. A few minutes after reserving everyone, it pushed a notification to everyone’s app letting them know they have a reservation. You can also see what other people in your party at interested in attending. It a nice app as long as you are connected to their wifi. To be clear you do NOT need to purchase the wifi plan to use this. You simply connect to their on board wifi and it functions with all features.
On the Lido Deck, deck 16, we find the Tides Pool Bar on the aft end of the ship, while towards the forward part, we find the Red Frog Tiki Bar. Two levels of South Pacific-themed cocktails set against a brightly colored island-inspired décor add a new twist to Carnival’s traditional poolside bar. Located at Mardi Gras’ La Piazza Italian-inspired zone is the Bar Della Rosa. This bar is located inside and outside offering stunning ocean views with comfy lounge sofas. This week we look forward to what’s in store onboard Mardi Gras. Much has been said about Carnival’s first of three mega-ships, and her first sailing is fast approaching.
Spread out over deck 6-7- and 8, Grand Central is one of the biggest entertainment venues at sea. Been snapped by the ship’s photographer on formal night, or have you purchased a Pixels photo package? This is where you’ll find them on ships that are digital-photo–enabled.
It has a large list of features to help you with getting around the ship, planning your day, and keeping an eye on your account. You can even find out when your next meal is LOL. As we see it, Grand Central will become one of the most popular areas onboard Mardi Gras. There are so many entertainment areas, bars, and lounges in this area it will take a few days to get the most out of it. During the day, the area will be a place for people to relax, enjoy a coffee, or other drinks; by night, the entire area changes into the perfect place for a night out.
A lot of the things I would need to queue for, I can now do using the app. Funtimes is a great resource, but you need to carry it around with you, and sometimes finding specific information isn’t that easy. When Carnival Cruise Line started the design process for Mardi Gras, they got one thing right straight from the start; dividing the vessel up into different zones. One of these is the Grand Central zone, with the colossal Atrium lobby as the main focal point, not just for Grand Central but also for the entire ship. Medium Widgets show your ship name, sail date, and how many days left to sailaway. Small Widgets show your ship name and how many days left to sailaway.
Before the App was created, all guests would have to appear at their Muster station at a pre-determined time. They would then receive instructions on what to do in case the ship hit an iceberg or some other calamity. You’ll find them all listed under “Packages and Deals”. All options these link back to the main website. So if you want to brag to your friends and family, or make your fellow workmates jealous, then now is the time to share your cruise booking info. I can even set reminders for events and my phone will let me know, so I don’t miss the start of that headliner show.
While Grand Central and the French Quarter will be highlights for many that enjoy a night out, it doesn’t mean that Carnival has forgotten about the rest of Mardi Gras. The cruise line has managed to cram fun into every corner of the vessel. While not as big as Grand Central, the French Quarter is undoubtedly something worth checking out. Deck 7 of Grand Central is the place to be for those that like to place a bet as stretched out from the Atrium to the Mardi Gras theatre is the casino.
